We use NXT as our CRM and marketing platform. We use the database for a wide array of things including: creating mailing lists, managing user contact information, prospect research, fiscal reporting, communications emails, and gift tracking. Personally, I touch on most of these myself since I am the data manager for the platform. Users come to me when something isn't working or they don't know how to do something.
  • They continue to improve the platform
  • Customer support is responsive
  • Online processing is a fairly smooth process
  • Reporting tools are not flexible enough to cover our needs
  • The import/update tools do not cover all data points (e.g. fund relationships)
  • If there isn't a way to do something in RE, you're forced to come up with your own solution - support does not help in this regard
It really depends on what the colleague is trying to do. While RE does not 100% cover what we need to do, it really does cover the basics. I would also not recommend this to a small business or non-profit as the contracts offered seem to be very expensive. RE greatly helps us with the stewardship of our constituents.

We use NXT daily! It is our primary CRM system, which contains all of our donor and prospect information. It connects with our database where we can pull reports. The system allows us to put in all constituent data and information and updates for digital and phone communications, along with gift data.
  • Research management
  • Communications management
  • Report management
  • More streamlined reports
  • Ability to create workflows easier for groups
We are constantly looking in NXT when we are looking to communicate or gather information on our constituents. We look at past gifts, wealth capacity data, as well as updates to their information and communication reports, allowing us to have the most up to date information when we are looking to contact the prospects in our portfolio.

Our organization uses Blackbaud Raisers Edge for our CRM for fundraising, events, action tracking, donor contact, marketing and financials. It is used by Development, Finance, and Program Outreach. It accurately tracks fundraising numbers and constituent interactions so hundreds of employees can be aware of such actions and not "step on each other's toes". Biographical information is easy to enter and update and using Queries and Exports is fairly simple.
  • Tracking incoming revenue.
  • Running financial reports.
  • Recording donor interactions
  • Tracking marketing efforts
  • Exporting large amounts of donor information
  • Recording donor attributes and communication preferences
  • Steep learning curve for a new user
  • Interface is not user friendly
  • Queries and Exports are extremely prone to user-error
  • Searching for donors by information other than name
For a non-profit that is donor based, Blackbaud Raiser's Edge is one of the best options. If price is a concern, it may not be a great option, and if time to learn the software is limited, this may also be a bad option.

We use Raiser's Edge NXT to store all of our constituent and gift data for fundraising at a college. The RE database view allows our research and advancement services teams to view granular data and the NXT web-view is useful for our gift officers to enter contact reports and view an overview of ratings and gift information for their prospects.
  • Pulling lists with very specific qualifiers
  • NXT view is friendly for non-technical users
  • Able to create limited reports within NXT
  • Too many fields end up in Attributes because there is no other good place for them
  • Some attributes do not have the option to export the most recent update to that field
  • Complex exports can take way too long or just crash and never finish.
I would recommend this for an organization that has a mix of technical users and end-users who prefer a simpler web view.

Blackbaud has done an outstanding job simplifying its flagship product, The Raiser's Edge. NXT is intuitive and easy to use, especially after having used the classic program. Like any good CRM it's cloud-based and can be accessed from anywhere and doesn't require installation of additional software or VPN. We use NXT to manage constituent relationships, including their communication preferences, and also use it for Events, gift processing and reporting.
  • the Workcenter is designed with frontline fundraisers in mind
  • Donation forms have QR codes!
  • Event management in NXT is better than in the database (or classic) view
  • The out-of-box dashboard/reports are helpful and insightful, and push to best practice
  • Several modules are still read-only, such as Volunteer Management and Memberships
  • Gift Batching in RE NXT is too simplified, users need more cash management control
  • Would be nice to be able to search for any kind of record, not just constituents
NXT is well suited to almost any nonprofit in any vertical. Blackbaud knows this industry better than any other software vendor or service provider out there. NXT is less customizable than Blackbaud's CRM solution, so it's possible that incredibly specialized and/or behemoth nonprofits who need to track vastly different kinds of information would feel this lack of customization.

It is our CRM for fundraising. We use it to track gifts, manage donor and prospect engagement, plan engagement based on analytics and develop solicitations in part on history tracked on RE. We need more help in identifying major gift prospects and a better way to track and calendar engagement on best prospects.
  • Tracks history of gifts and makes it easy to see giving over time, also good at organizing and accessing complete constituent information around contact information, displaying gifts with date and designations, restrictions etc..
  • NXT provides easy access to analytics and reports to share for specific dates etc. to support decision making and planning
  • Display format and organization of analytical information is very intuitive and easy to navigate and helpful in developing reports for presentations.
  • Wealth information to identify constituents including donors and prospects regarding their capacity to give is not readily available and should be part of the package.
  • Should be able to move information back and forth from other platforms like Imodules.
  • Running queries is more complicated than it should be and recommendations vary between RE support staff and website.
  • Finding the right RE/NXT Courses to take is very complicated and time consuming to sift through; it’s too difficult to find a RE staff person knowledgeable to make recommendations. I feel I am on my own to find the courses I need and so delay taking class.
For organizations needing to build major gifts, RE doesn’t have a robust and easy system to review database of prospects and donor for best prospects and how to rank them. Also it should be standard in my package. Wrath information doesn’t appear as robust as competitors and it feels cumbersome to work the data into day to day donor calls. Also would like AI to tell me which prospect to contact when, identify affinities, recommend gift type and amount and more, and offer this daily to gift officers on individual dashboards as action items for Development staff to act on daily.

We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for gift entry and donor/prospect management. We reconcile monthly with finance to ensure our fundraising totals tie out with the accounting side.
  • Easy to read format.
  • Prompts before changing things.
  • Intuitive design.
  • Ability to work in multiple views based on preference.
  • Need for things to carry over consistently between web and database view.
  • Better communication regarding outages or down-time.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is great for gift tracking and donor trends. Not always the most reliable for prospect research.

Our team uses Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT as our fundraising solution, including donation tracking, event registration, workflow management, and for data and analytics. The web interface offers us ease of access for basic-level users and the back-end database allows more seasoned team members to customize reporting for organizational needs. Overall, we've been very happy with this product.
  • Merchant Services; donation processing.
  • Data management.
  • Easy to use online interface.
  • Automated workflow options are limited.
  • Marketing tools are limited.
  • Integrations can be costly.
The software is pricey and not best suited for smaller organizations. Once organizations have a steady stream of donors, then this is a good next-step software.

Blackbaud is a great service that addresses database management and prospect research capacity in one. I do like many of the functions they offer, both via their “webview” model and via their “database” model. I utilize Blackbaud primarily to complete queries, exports, prospect lists, and wealth data in my current role. I have also used Blackbaud’s Guided Fundraising software for implementation in our stinger calling room.
  • List building, especially with their ability to show prospects on geographic map.
  • Querying within database. Their is a fair amount of customization available, even though the platform itself visually appears slightly dated.
  • Tags, which you can use for a lot of different situations from reminders for gift officers to important notes on constituents records.
  • Customer service could be improved. On many occasions, it has been lack luster at best through years of different representatives.
  • Product roadmap improvements. It seems sometimes products or services are rushed for the sake of being first on the market.
  • More visually improved database format, with more capabilities to easily connect external services.
For mid size higher education fundraising teams that need a reputable database vendor. I would recommend this platform, even though there are areas in which improvements can be made.

I use Raiser's Edge NXT to track donors, prospects, events, etc. It allows us to flag constituents for follow-up and accurately records their gift history, personal notes, addresses, tributes for memorial gifts, event participation, etc. We use this functionality to pull reports on appeal and fund performance, as well as query lists of constituents for donor mailings.
  • Track gifts.
  • Tribute gifts.
  • Email generation.
  • The donation form designer is too templated. Little room for creativity and tweaking for more unique needs.
  • Creation of records with online gifts. Constituent and tribute gift records are automatically created for any deviation of an existing record, so duplicate records are likely as people may donate or give tribute gifts with a nickname, middle, initial, etc.
  • The functionality of NXT webview vs. database view. You can't do everything in either view. For example, gifts can be entered in webview but have to be edited in the database view. Webview is convenient for viewing simple donor information, but more complex functions must be done in the database view. It's a lot of back and forth and is challenging for a new user to grasp.
  • Generating acknowledgment letters is more complicated and requires more steps without the ability to use the Word Merge Wizard. We personalize acknowledgment letters by appeal, so it requires separate exports for each appeal type in the given timeframe and then completing the merge in Microsoft Word. Previous versions of Raiser's Edge (not NXT) were more integrated.
  • Knowledgebase articles are not reliably helpful. There is a definite learning curve, and unless you choose to have a continuous support option (for additional cost), customer support is lacking post-integration.
Our organization is relatively small and does not focus a lot on planned gifts and estate planning. Most revenue comes in through events or specific solicitations. Raiser's Edge NXT would be more advantageous for those who are more strategic in their outreach and efforts with repeated follow-ups, actions, etc. We don't operate that way, so there are aspects of the functionality that are not of benefit to us. Some of the reporting/export options are where we spend most of our time, and the acknowledgment letter process, in particular, is clunky.

We use Raiser's Edge NXT (RENXT) for donor management, gift management, acknowledgment letters, and moves management. In addition to being the Director of our fundraising program, I also responsible for managing the database and acknowledgment letters. We have a very small shop of three fundraisers. To help manage the database, we have hired an independent to help with issues, coding, and pull lists.
  • Relationship management.
  • Gift tracking.
  • Portfolio management.
  • Moves management.
  • Pulling lists.
  • Gift acknowledgements.
  • Training and ease of use.
  • Online donation forms.
  • Duplicate management.
Raiser's Edge is a great program, but it is difficult to use, especially for a small shop like mine. If a friend of mine had a large team with a couple of database administrators, I would 100% recommend Raiser's Edge. For a small shop, I would recommend software with fewer capabilities and less expensive. For my 5,000-person database, we pay $20,000/annually. I enjoy managing my portfolio in web-based software. The user interface is very pretty. I often run into issues with gift batching and have several times committed gifts with mistakes that we have to live with for the rest of our lives. It is hard to use - especially for someone who isn't well-versed in software management like myself.

We implemented Raiser's Edge NXT 3 years ago to manage all of our donor information and processes. I chose NXT because of its robust functionality that I had used at other organizations. I helped train three people on NXT, and we used it for three years until our contract was up this month, and we decided to move away from it.
  • Lots of opportunity for customization.
  • Can track anything and everything.
  • Robust reporting.
  • Ease of webview use for frontline fundraisers.
  • Took away ability to create letters from batch.
  • Charges extra random fees in middle of contract.
  • Very poor customer service.
  • Lots of downtime.
Honestly, with the changes in the last few years, it's hard to think of any reason to recommend Raiser's Edge NXT anymore. It used to be the gold standard and a product I loved. However, with the loss of key functionality such as letters, the horrible customer service, and the frequent outages, it's hard to recommend them at all. There are many other products out there that are robust and function well with great customer service.

Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT (RE NXT) helps Queens Public Library manage many aspects of our fundraising: direct mail, major gifts, grants, events, and bequests. We use RE NXT's cloud-based solution to build our donor database, record donor interactions, track donations, and manage campaigns and appeals. RE NXT's analytics and database features helps us better understand our donors, including their capacity to give, how to segment them, and how to personalize outreach based on the donor's past relationship and interactions with our institution. Occasionally, the service crashes and I am unable to log in. This is the only reason I hesitate to give this product a perfect rating. Otherwise, I highly recommend RE NXT to other nonprofit organizations that are looking for a premium solution to streamline their fundraising efforts.
  • Comprehensive fundraising solution.
  • Robust analytics.
  • Easy to use interface.
  • The cloud-based service crashes sometimes.
  • Expensive
  • Does not contain every feature found in the traditional Raiser's Edge database solution.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is useful for larger nonprofits that can afford this comprehensive solution to managing donor relationships and streamlining various fundraising efforts. It's perfect for direct mail and moves management for major donors. Smaller nonprofits will find it too expensive. The solution can help track grant donations, but it is not a grants management tool.

We use NXT as our donor services management software. I specifically use the web view as I am a fundraiser and use it for creating actions, reminders, and gift development.
  • The ability to see my actions on the front dashboard.
  • The ability to customize the dashboard for my own preferences.
  • The actions are not always correct. I will "complete" one but it will still show up as incomplete when going through the dashboard.
  • I wish I could pull a report based on constituent code.
Overall, I find NXT helpful and a useful tool in my fundraising efforts. There are a few tweaks I would make to increase efficiency, like the way emails are built in the marketing tab and for actions to be completed without having to "complete" them twice.

We use NXT to manage our donor database of about 140,000 constituents for a large, public university, including alumni, parents, students, etc. My main concern is how frequently the platform or specific platform functions go down in outages. On Giving Tuesday, one of the largest fundraising events of the whole year, a key tool (RE Database View) was not accessible and down for many hours. This relates to another key concern, which is that our team still relies on the "old" version of Raiser's Edge (accessed through Database view) for some of our key, day-to-day functioning (like gift processing, managing memberships, and pulling specific queries). The cost in time and dollars is high and yet the service is undependable due to frequent outages and there are key functionalities that are not yet available in NXT yet.
  • Holistic View of Constituents
  • Offers Integrations with 3rd party tools for ease (ThankView, Live Alumni, etc)
  • Streamlined Lists functionality to make data reporting and pulling easier
  • Key Functionalities are missing from the new and supposedly updated program (managing memberships, creating and managing appeals, etc)
  • Numerous outages (especially on high-traffic days like Giving Tuesday)
  • Lack of key data points as usable fields in the Insights feature, making them unreportable
It is well-suited for organizations with large frontline-fundraising teams who need their Development Officers to learn the platform fast and manage their day-to-day data entry in a more user-friendly way (compared to database view).

We use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT along with Raise'rs Edge database to keep track of and manage our donor profiles, events, appeals, reports, donations, and outreach lists. Supervisors and individuals who are mostly viewers use Raiser's Edge NXT. For the most part, we primarily use the database version of Raiser's Edge for a number of reasons. The database version has gift entries with much more detail, as well as batch entry. In the database, we use the query and export regularly to build lists and reports. Sometimes I go into NXT to build a report because they have a more modern and presentable look. Unfortunately, the reports are less than reliable and often don't give me what I am trying to report. NXT is great for someone on the go or who only wants access to basic info, like an email or phone number for an individual, or to look up a person's giving history. Over the years Blackbaud has made many improvements to NXT and they continue to make efforts to improve its functionality. It is a robust CRM tool and one of the most comprehensive in the nonprofit world. I would recommend it - just not without the database version to give you what you really need for data entry, creating lists, and reporting.
  • It is a robust CRM which houses your constituents' basic info.
  • Easily accessible on the web, or as an app on your phone.
  • Easily pull up a constituent to see their relationships, gifts, appeals, events, ratings, etc.
  • In my opinion, the reporting tools are not user-friendly. They look nice but do not give me the criteria options I need to report. Also, they are often inaccurate.
  • The events module in NXT needs to connect to the events module in database.
  • From my experience, building lists in NXT is quite basic and needs to be more robust - more like a query in the Raiser's Edge database.
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT is great if you have solicitors who go out into the field and just need access to individuals' information on the go. NXT is also great for supervisors who are less technologically savvy and just need access to someone's phone/email, plus their giving history. I would always recommend getting the database version to be the receptacle and source of all data entry and report generation. The database is clunky but reliable and incredibly robust.

I use Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT to manage my portfolio of donors at The National WWII Museum. NXT is a nimble system that is easy to navigate and extremely user friendly. NXT allows me to record information to maintain an accurate account of opportunities, actions, and gift records. With the information from NXT, I can provide an excellent donor experience with the Museum.
  • Create lists
  • Reminds me of opportunities and action steps
  • Maintain excellent donor records
  • Creates a historical record of past interactions with donors for new fundraisiers
  • Attachments made in NXT available in Database view
  • Sending emails
  • Connection to business calendar in Outlook
Blackbaud Raiser's Edge is well-suited to managing prospects. It is difficult to manage planned giving prospects, donors, and the legacy society.

My organization uses NXT for all fundraising data entry and reporting. We are able to create advanced reports for our development team and organization constituents with the software, as well as tackle day-to-day gift tracking. I serve as the database manager and perform regular maintenance and cleanup to ensure data accuracy. Raiser's Edge NXT streamlines our data entry process.
  • Built-in reports cover development needs.
  • It is easy to navigate, and data is easily accessible on-the-go.
  • Support services elicit prompt and thorough direction.
  • Functionality with other Blackbaud products could be improved.
  • The need to switch between NXT and database view could be eliminated.
Gift entry is incredibly easy. Building donation forms for social media and website use is user friendly and fully encompasses gift recording needs. Pulling lists can be a bit cumbersome, but it all depends on the level of detail of data entered and how it needs to pull into a report.

Raiser's Edge is the backbone of our development and alumni relations operations. It helps us to track donors, prospects, volunteers, and alumni in an efficient way. It is easy to use for users of all levels of technical skills but still powerful enough to solve high end more technical issues.
  • Track Donations.
  • Track engagement and prospect data.
  • Export and import to and from other applications.
  • Further enhancements of the NXT view query ability for more complicated lists.
  • Increased fields and filters in the Insight builder.
  • Easier integration through API or training of users from Blackbaud on that Aspecy.
It is a perfect solution for any size development shop. The NXT view is still best suited for fundraisers and alumni relations or event staff. The database view is still critical for the research, advancement services, and administration staff as all functionality is still not rolled out into the NXT view.

To meet our up-to-the-minute communications and online fundraising needs, we regularly employ the eblast marketing tool and donations form. I am impressed with the metrics and tracking capabilities of Raisers Edge, both for engagement in our messaging and funds raised through our online forms. With a goal to engage with half of our donor family through online newsletters and increase online giving by 10%, we have been able to reach larger numbers of our donors through Online Express. We have struggled, however, to get our questions answered regarding list management, and I feel the limited graphics capabilities of the email marketing tool are wonky compared with other eblast tools on the market. In my experience, customer service has regularly attempted to sell us new products rather than address the challenges we are facing. Overall, I would give your product an average score, and will gladly change my grade when I see better service behind your products.
  • provide valuable measures of our outreach
  • link email addresses to open and clickthrough rates
  • more streamlined access to customer support for Raisers Edge
  • decision NOT to market new products to dissatisfied customers
  • better graphics capabilities in the email marketing tool
  • simpler list management process
The fundraising tool is smooth, and our donors are contacted immediately when they donate. Because of the issues in my experience, we have consistently had with list management, email marketing, and overall customer service, I would not recommend your products highly at this time. We have had entire email blasts drop spontaneously from the server and disappear into cyberspace. We have struggled with the tedious process of list selection with every blast we distribute. The limited font choices and seeming inability of the software to handle multiple fonts within a text block remain frustrating.

  • platform to manage alumni where I wont go over on my constituent cap
For my job when running lists for invitations or searching for donor info, it is well suited. I do wish that there could be more automation between my other programs where specific actions trigger another action. I also cannot add many of my Alumni contacts into the database to manage because of the cap on constituents, there could be an improvement on this.

My organization used Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for two years. We used this as our donor database. Previously my organization had used eTapestry, another Blackbaud product. Our Blackbaud consultant recommended the upgrade to Raiser's Edge NXT. We were told that the additional features in NXT would greatly benefit our organization. While there were a few upgrades that I did find useful such as the list option, advances in tracking emails and online donation form tracking, the cost was not worth the few extra things we used. I do believe for a very large organization this product might be a good fit, but for us it did not deliver on what we had been promised. My organization ended up going back to using eTap.
  • Tracking of email interactions
  • Being able to assign a fundraiser to constituents
  • Customer service for questions about the system
  • Queries
  • Data base view is not very user friendly
In my opinion, NXT was not an upgrade my organization needed. The additional cost from eTap was not justified. The web view is very user friendly and had some great features. The ability to track email interactions we very useful. Also the ability to see how many people had visited specific donation landing pages and how many of those people gave was a useful tool to have. Our troubles started in the very beginning. The implantation process was not smooth. In my experience, many things that the Blackbaud team should have taken care of we had to do ourselves. We were not able to process credit cards for over a month when the new system went live. We also had an issue with our reoccurring monthly card donations were not transferred over to the new database, even after the original card processing issue was taken care of. We sent multiple emails to different people to get this fixed and finally I had to call all of our donors and get their information again because we weren't able to process the donations. We also had issues getting our receipts to generate in the data base view. I had 2 shared screen calls with our Blackbaud consultant and still took over a month to get things set up. We have not changed back to eTap and I am very happy to be done with NXT. The few things I did like were not enough for the price difference.

It is our CRM. I enter all gifts in the database, use it to acknowledge and develop prospect lists and mailing lists. Raiser's Edge is our main database for fundraising and donor management. We use it to pull reports for fiscal and calendar year and send mail outs for fundraising campaigns as well as online campaigns. It holds all of our donor information
  • Reports of all kinds
  • Mailing labels, spreadsheets
  • Lybunt
  • Downloading online gifts from Blackbaud merchant services , all infor is not included and takes some manual labor
  • Acknowledgement letters can no longer be run out of blackbaud! Huge inconvenience
  • Easily creates duplicates
Well suited to build a database for infrastructure to begin reaching out to donor and to continuously reach out to donor with donor information at your fingertips. Raisers edge is well suited for higher education with medium to large size donor data base. It may not be suitable for organizations with small database

We implemented Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT in 2021, after using Blackbaud Raiser's Edge for many years. We didn't implement it in order to address any business problems-- it is something Blackbaud is pushing all organizations to, and it was inevitable that we had to transition at some point. It did transition us to a cloud-based database, which increases gift officer's ability to access it remotely, but has also led to constant issues when Blackbaud's servers are down for hours/whole days.
  • More aesthetically pleasing for some people
  • Customizable layout
  • NXT Ratings are helpful
  • Past due actions are easier to flag/see
  • Gift entry is missing key functionality (pledges, tributes)
  • Searching for records has limited functionality compared to database view
  • In my opinion, lists have limited functionality- 99% of the time I need to log back into database view and make a query
  • Report builder/Insights is not intuitive at all
  • Most reporting/data processes can't be done effectively in NXT
  • You have to deactivate and restart some workflows regularly since you can't put the same workflow on a constituent more than once.
As someone who works on the backend of Raiser's Edge, in my experience, NXT is not useful to me at all. The only people I would recommend it to are frontline fundraisers, who only need to see summarized information and don't need as much functionality. It is also frustrating that Blackbaud has been promising for years that the functionality was being built out, but it seems quite slow to actually happen.

I use NXT mostly to enter Actions and Notes into the records of donors after completing cultivating steps or finding out background information about them. I also use it to identify information about a donor if they're calling and need some background details about prior gifts or whether or not we received a gift. In terms of data analytics, we are also in the process of building out dashboards to display KPIs such as retention rates, revenue, etc.
  • Analytics dashboard are helpful are user friendly
  • General layout of donor information is displayed in a clean way
  • In some ways it has more functionality than RE database version, such as clickable links within each record that bounce to related pages
  • Very limited ability to run queries. I have to open up the database view to do that.
  • If I am logged into the database version of RE, after too much time of inactivity it breaks the connection and I need to manually break the a data connection and the process takes about 10 minutes. Very time consuming and unnecessary in my opinion.
  • The giving history cuts off after a certain number of entries. If I want to see the comprehensive giving history, I need to log into the database view, which takes longer to load.
  • In my opinion, the contact info is not entirely intuitive and is missing some bits of information that would organize it in a clean way. For example, I want to be able to indicate if a donor unsubscribed to bulk emails vs. emails we should never contact even for individual outreach.
  • There is no option to check of text message as a method of contact.
  • I would like to see a service that scans phone numbers and tells you if they're cell phones or landlines.
  • In my expereince customer service is generally not helpful and difficult to reach.
  • Even though we use Luminate Online, another Blackbaud product, we have no way of automatically recording which emails a donor received. There has also been no movement on fixing this issue.
NXT is an okay option for meeting basic database needs in donor management, but there are too many areas of improvement that make it an overall clunky database. With that said, these issues have existed for a while and there are no signs that they will be improved or changed. It's also frustrating that the Facebook group for other Blackbaud users is a more reliable source of customer service than the actual customer service representatives at Blackbaud.
